YORK MP Hugh Bayley has backed a campaign by York Youth Service to involve the young people of York in UNICEF fundraising.
Young people from Burnholme Youth Centre and Burnholme Community College are collecting items such as videos, CDs, books, toys, games and clothing, which they will sell to raise funds for UNICEF projects in Iraq.
Stephen Rouse, area youth worker for Tang Hall and Heworth, is spearheading the initiative.
He said: "It's about giving young people the opportunity to help, but not at a huge cost to themselves."
Mr Bayley said: "I congratulate York Youth Service for their fundraising efforts on behalf of UNICEF which will provide much needed assistance."
Items can be taken to The Kingswater Centre, Clifton Green Primary School.
Burnholme Youth Centre will serve as a collection point after the Easter holidays.
Young people wishing to make a donation to the Evening Press/UNICEF appeal should phone 0114 251 7092 for information about organising a fundraising event, or complete the special coupon here.
