THOUSANDS of reservists backing up troops in the Gulf are heading home, with the help of a York manager.
Frank de Planta, area environment manager of the Environment Agency in the city, has been drafted in to head a specialist logistics team to bring them back to Britain.
Mr de Planta, 41, a reservist with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, said: "I am looking forward to going out there. I'm being mobilised to de-mobilise. I'll be heading up a team in Kuwait whose job it will be to bring back the 10,000 reservists who were called up to serve in Iraq.
"I maintained my military connections after eight years as a regular officer with the Royal Anglians which means I was always liable to be called up."
