AT the risk of (and no pun intended) 'ruffling a few feathers' I wish to comment upon the York City Knights v Featherstone Rovers match report in the Evening Press (Monday, April 14).
I attended this match and York acquitted themselves pretty well considering both the opposition involved and their injury situation. But why didn't reporter Tony Curtis give credit to the Knights' opponents? Seemingly every Rovers' try was preventable (so of course were Trevor Krause's for the Knights if viewed purely 'defensively').
Furthermore, had York produced a 'lacklustre' display and not been able to 'tackle a crossword' they would have lost by a much heavier margin than a respectable 18 points. Paul Broadbent rightly highlighted areas York can improve on, but also praised his opponents. Similarly Dave Stanford gave Rochdale due credits in his York City football match report.
Good luck to the Knights for the forthcoming league season. I'm sure they'll do well, but sometimes, Mr Curtis, the opposition can play as well you know.
