PEGASUS Opera Company presents The Love Potion, better known as Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, at Harrogate Theatre on April 23 and 24 at 7.30pm.
Love, despair, rejection and redemption are the ingredients of an opera set in Jamaica and performed by a multi-racial cast in a new adaptation by David Parry.
In The Love Potion, poor young farmer Nemorino has fallen hopelessly in love with rich factory owner Adina, who rejects him. In his desperate attempt to win her love, Nemorino spends his last remaining money on an elixir which, according to legend, Isolde used to fall in love with Tristan.
Tim Coleman directs a cast of Maureen Brathwaite (Adina), Andrew Morton (Nemorino), Jason Wasley (Belcore), Aris Nadirian (Dulcamara) and Angela Caesar (Gianetta). Box office: 01423 502116.
