THE flags are flying proudly at York Racecourse after a new grandstand was officially handed over to race chiefs.
York Races flags now grace the new Ebor Grandstand, on Knavesmire, as the £20 million facility reached "practical completion".
Construction giant Sir Robert McAlpine has completed the main construction work on the stand and the racecourse team at York will now be overseeing the installation of furniture.
The stand is due to be unveiled to racegoers on May 13, and race chiefs will be using the time ahead to become familiar with their new pride and joy.
William Derby, chief executive and clerk of the course, said: "This weekend marks another significant step towards the real excitement of seeing the stand full of racegoers for the May meeting, beginning on Tuesday, May 13.
"This magnificent building is a tribute to the hard work of everyone involved."
Chris Rafferty, the Ebor Stand project manager, said: "Our team are proud of the building and we are looking forward to enjoying it through the season."
With floor-to-ceiling glass views and a series of bars and restaurants, the stand will be open to York Racecourse's annual members and County Stand badge holders on race days.
