PEOPLE in the Harrogate area who suffer from long-term illness are being offered enrolment on a course to help improve their quality of life.
Craven, Harrogate and Rural District Primary Care Trust (PCT) is part of a national pilot for the Expert Patients' Programme.
The programme was launched in September 2001 by Chief Medical Officer Sir Liam Donaldson to empower those people living with chronic medical conditions to become key decision-makers in their own care.
The PCT's free six-session course is part of a national programme to help those with arthritis, asthma, coronary heart disease, multiple sclerosis, irritable bowel syndrome and endometriosis to take control of their condition.
Jenny Poulter, senior trainer for the Expert Patients' Programme at the PCT, said: "The course has been designed to help people with long-term health conditions regain as much control over their physical and mental well-being as possible."
