GREEN-FINGERED staff and customers at a York garden centre have donated more than £6,500 to York Health Services NHS Trust to pay for life-saving medical equipment.
Customers at Dean's Garden Centre, at Stockton-on-the-Forest, donated a total of £1,466 to the store wishing well. Staff raised thousands more by organising a fun run, charity discos and raffles.
The money paid for an electrocardiograph for the outpatients' department, a new pulse and blood pressure monitor for gynaecology, and a new syringe driver for the Special Care Baby Unit.
Sandra Dixon, houseplant supervisor at Dean's Garden Centre, said: "Every year the staff support a major charity. Last year we decided to give something back to the local community, so we contacted the trust and asked them how we could help."
George Wood, deputy chief executive of the trust, said: "I am very grateful for the excellent support from the staff and customers at Dean's. Their community spirit has proved that people can make a difference to the quality of their local healthcare services."
