A VOLUNTEER Yorkshire- based rescue team has launched a prize lottery in an effort to raise vital lifesaving funds.
Scarborough and District Search and Rescue Team needs to raise about £15,000 a year to assist incidents in North Yorkshire and Humberside, ranging from injured mountain bikers in Dalby Forest, to road traffic accidents that require expertise in working on steep ground.
The Club 200 Lottery will charge £5 a month for one of only 200 tickets to be in with a chance to win the £500 prize.
Pete Thompson, team public relations officer, said: "With the increase in popularity of outdoor leisure pursuits the team is being called out more frequently. However, we still rely entirely on the generosity of the public for funding.
"Everyone on the team appreciates the support we get from the communities we serve on all our fundraising efforts."
