VILLAGERS are opening their gardens to the public on Saturday in aid of charity.
Eileen Rhodes, of Priors Walk, off Ouse Acres, Poppleton, York, read about WellBeing's work for women and babies.
When she discovered that their profile in North Yorkshire was very low, she decided to do something about it.
Together with friends from her keep-fit class, Mrs Rhodes has organised the Open Gardens morning to raise money for WellBeing.
She has created a stunning Japanese garden especially for the event, matching the Japanese theme of her house.
Visits start from 26 Priors Walk, and continue round a circuit of several gardens before returning to the start where there will be coffee, cakes and a tombola.
Children are more than welcome. Mrs Rhodes said: "I wanted to raise the profile of WellBeing in the county. I hope that lots of people will come and support us."
The gardens are open from 2pm on Saturday April 19. Maps of the route will be available from the starting point. WellBeing is also organising a 1940s-themed dinner and dance at Elvington Air Museum on Saturday May 17. Authentic uniforms and ration books are encouraged but not obligatory. The evening runs from 8pm to 12.30am.
For information phone Beth from WellBeing on 020 7772 6350.
