Commonwealth bronze medallist Amy Monkhouse showed her true class when she won the York and District Indoor Bowls Club's Ladies Singles final, beating last year's winner Melanie Brooke 21-7, writes Ian Clough.
Monkhouse won only one of the first four ends, trailing 4-3 before steeping up a gear and winning all but two more ends in the game, scoring a four and three threes in the process to add yet another title to her growing collection.
Frank Turner was in top form as he pulled away from Ken Hutson when the game stood at 7-6 in his favour to win 21-11 to take the Veterans' Singles title for the second year running.
There was also some good bowling in both the Under-25s and Under-15s finals.
John Walker, who has had a good season, reaching the National Under-25 Finals, the Denny Cup quarter-finals and was part of the club's Yorkshire League and Challenge Cup winning teams, had to fend off a spirited fight-back from 15-year-old Philip Herridge.
Walker had scored a four, followed two ends later by a two and then another four, to lead 17-9 before Herridge won five of the next seven ends to trail by three at 20-17. But then Walker got the all-important single to take the title 21-17.
The Under-15s final was also a close encounter, with Josh Cahill trailing 17-16 to Adam Liddell before winning four successive ends to triumph 21-17.
At New Earswick, Gary Bunce took the Men's Singles title when he scored a two, three then another two to beat Dave Birch 21-18. Birch had led 11-3.
Jeanette Coulson showed her experience as she coasted through the Ladies Singles final to beat Julia Scarborough 22-8.
In the Ladies Pairs Knockout final, Kath Hardcastle and Moyra Headley had a healthy 9-4 lead after eight ends only to see Pat Walker and Margaret Moss come back by winning five successive ends, scoring 11 shots to make the score 15-9, a lead they never relinquished as they won 20-16.
In the Men's Pairs, Roy Robinson and Dave Birch showed their domination by scoring a six on the last end to beat Bill Chittock and John Rowan 27-13.
The delayed Men's Singles final at Thanet Road between Eddie Howcroft and Barry Walker, and the Senior Ladies Singles final between Brenda Love and Betty Richardson have been rearranged to be played on Saturday morning, both starting at 10am.
