BAY Horse, Fulford, 'A' team's magnificent York Open League season was capped by Rich Corner winning the division one individual championship.

His opponent in the final was colleague Paul Cooper, who shot off with a splendid 17 darts.

Corner came back with game in 21 then, in the decider, followed a maximum with a telling 171-score, to leave double-ten, and clinch the title in a superb 16 darts.

The division two final was an all-Howden Arms, Tadcaster affair in which Dave Tatterton came from behind to beat Steve Burton.

Ali Wray (Bay Horse 'B') proved too strong for Mike Kearney (Mount 'B') to collect the division three honours.

The mixed pairs final pitched Slipper's Steve Reynolds, partnering last season's winner, Sue Turpin, against twice runners-up John-Wendy Smith (Tap and Spile). The Smiths prevented a hat-trick, winning the silverware 2-0.

Smith and Jim Wallis faced Cooper and Allan Galley in the pairs competition final. Big scoring from the Bay Horse duo was wrapped up 2-0 by Galley.

The triples trophy was also taken by Bay Horse but were given a scare when Clifton's Graham Sanderson and Jo Hodges went 2-0 up. Kev then Dave O'Hara levelled but 20 darts from Neil Hart put Clifton in front once more.

Bay bounced back with Kevin O'Hara making it all square, then his father, Dave, flew out with a marvellous 148-shot and Andy Lawson showed nerves of steel to secure the winner.

The season's highest checkout was 164, recorded by Woolpack's Vic Reed, while the three fastest finishes competitions finished -

Div 1: 38 Paul Cooper, Bay 'A' (11,12,15); Div 2: 58 Dick Willoughby, Pack (19,19.20); Div 3: 61 Ali Wray, Bay 'B' (20,20,21).

Cooper's 38 aggregate equals the York area record set by Chris Thompson, when he played for another Bay Horse, the one at Monk Bar.
