In the last league game of the season, Pocklington went down 22-55 to West Leeds despite a battling second half performance.
Pocklington failed to cope with the West Leeds attack early on before dragging themselves back into contention in the second half.
Pocklington made an awful start. After just two minutes they kicked the ball down the throat of a West Leeds winger who outpaced them from half way to go under the posts.
A blatant forward pass quickly put West Leeds over for another before they scored two more long-range tries.
After a couple of strong individual runs, Pocklington finally opened their account when Mark Taylor made a break from flyhalf which ended with centre Guy Wilson charging over.
West Leeds again replied with a couple of incisive scores, while Pocklington's hopes were further scuffered as they lost Andy Wilson (back), Rob Cayley (eye) and Tim Bolton (knee), all injured within the first half hour.
A penalty try converted by Wilson made it 12-43 at the break.
Pocklington improved and Taylor got more points on the board with an early drop goal.
Fourth placed West Leeds had a mathematical chance of promotion and the West Leeds management tried to gee-up their side by sending a spurious message to their players that both Malton and West Park were losing.
However, they made little impression on Pocklington and the home side scored again when Harry Allen touched down, Wilson converting.
West Leeds scored two injury-time tries to pull clear.
