WARNING signs have been installed on a popular tourist route through Ryedale in an effort to clamp down on speeding.
Flashing 30mph signs have been installed by North Yorkshire County Council in the village of Foxholes on the B1249, a much-used summer route from the south to Scarborough.
The vehicle-activated signs, which cost £12,000, will flash warning signs to motorists informing them they are entering a 30mph zone.
The latest statistics reveal that vehicles currently drive through the village at speeds well over 40mph.
Coun Murray Naylor, county councillor for the area and the deputy leader of the county council, said: "Foxholes carries a high level of traffic, particularly during the summer. I'm hopeful that by introducing these special signs the county council will be contributing towards an improved safety record and the protection of village life.
"However, the onus for safety on our roads still remains with individual drivers."
The signs were being officially switched on today.
