THE head teacher of a North Yorkshire school was bidding his pupils farewell today.

Norman Corner, who has led Lady Lumley's School, Pickering, for the last ten years, had previously been thanked by pupils for his service and commitment during a special school assembly.

Head boy Jeremy Wilson and head girl Chelsea Kilpatrick highlighted his influence on the school - two successful OFSTED inspections, an increased school roll, further development of community education, an all-weather sports pitch, and the Millennium Building.

Mr Corner will take on the headship at Stokesley School from April 28.

He said: "The school's outstanding examination successes at all three Key stages, its wide range of building developments to accommodate the rising roll and the flourishing 6th form all emphasise that Lady Lumley's School is a very successful school, and I am grateful for the teamwork that makes that possible.

"I look forward to hearing of the school's continuing success."

Deputy head Andy Leach will take over as acting head. Governors hope to appoint a new head, who will join the school in September.
