YOUR report about cyclists who ride without lights (April 7) is indicative of a widely-held belief among them that neither the law, nor common sense, should apply to them.

I have been involved in numerous incidents involving cycles which are either entirely unlit or lit by only LEDs, both as a driver and a pedestrian.

In York city centre I have seen many instances of cyclists almost causing serious accidents by ignoring traffic lights, failing to signal and recklessly cutting across traffic flows.

On foot I have had to jump out of the way of bicycles being ridden at high speed on crowded pavements.

I am sick and tired of the trendy Leftie cycle lobby's belief that, because bicycles do not emit greenhouse gases, their owners should be allowed to break the law and behave anti-socially.

Dangerous cycling can, and does, cause accidents and I see no reason why the same system of safety regulation for motorists should not also apply to cyclists.
