YORK Musical Society presents Bach's St John Passion for the first time since 1995 on Sunday, April 13 at 6.30pm at York Minster.
In the interim years it has been performed biannually by the York Minster Choir, enabling York Musical Society to perform Bach's St Matthew Passion biannually on the alternate year.
Concert secretary Joyce Goodwin says: "We have some interesting young soloists who have recently graduated from various colleges of music. Three are new to us but come highly recommended."
Sunday's soloists are: Joshua Ellicott, as the Evangelist; Darren Jeffery, Christus; Angharad Gruffydd Jones, soprano; Elinor Carter, alto; Nicholas Watts, tenor; and Owen Gilhooly, bass.
Ellicott studied music at the University of York; Watts was born and brought up in Long Marston, where his family still lives; Carter was born in York.
The conductor is Philip Moore; the organists John Scott Whiteley and Robert Poyser. Tickets cost £5.50 to £14, concessions £4.50 to £12, available from York Theatre Royal, tel 01904 623568..
