YORK SCHOOLS Under-13 football team hit top form as they won 5-1 at Grimsby.

The home side were under pressure from the kick-off and York were rewarded by early goals from Danny Penrose (2) and Liam Winfield.

In the second half Grimsby scrambled a goal in but York didn't buckle and two long range shots from Jack Webster and Phil Smithies snuffed out any hope of a Grimsby revival.

York's Under-12s drew 0-0 with Nottingham. That was a good comeback for the U12s, who had lost 7-0 to Sheffield.

Sheffield had called off their Under-11 encounter with York, who were back in action on Saturday, drawing 1-1 with Nottingham at York Sixth Form College.

Mike Duckworth and Joe Fox controlled midfield for York and the pair combined to put in captain Tom Corner (St Aelred's), who snapped up the chance.

Tom Khan hit a post and Fox headed over from close range before Nottingham netted a late equaliser.

The U11s have three games remaining - against Hull at York Sixth Form College on Tuesday, April 22 (10.30am), at Scarborough on Saturday, April 26 and the Yorkshire Cup final. Their opponents and the date for the final have not yet known.

The U11s presentation evening is being held tomorrow at York RI's New Lane ground at 7.30pm. Players are asked to wear a shirt and tie and take £2 subscription.
