APRIL power could see IT Sports Wigginton established as the prime force in Yorkshire squash.
Newly-crowned as champions of the Yorkshire Squash League premier division, IT Sports are now anticipating a silverware double after surging into the final of the Yorkshire Cup, which they won last year.
The Wigginton wizards will meet Heaton of Bradford in the final at a venue and date yet to be determined, but the showdown will be played by the end of April.
To reach the final the IT Sports crew hammered derby rivals Harrogate 4-1 to maintain a 100 per cent record this season.
With visiting Harrogate shorn of their top player, world number ten ranked Anthony Ricketts, they were never in with a shout.
Wigginton's star man, world number four John White, comfortably disposed of Ricketts' replacement Peter Barker 3-0, though the youngster hinted that he could be among the best in the future.
Paul Hargrave was the only home player to lose. After taking an epic opening set 17-16, he then perished to lose 3-1 overall to Joey Barrington, son of former British legend Jonah Barrington.
That left Wigginton's Irish international Jon Rooney to steady the ship with a 3-0 triumph over teenage American Chris Gordon. York champion Jamie Hopwood beat Paul Hornsby by the same emphatic margin, a gulf of victory enjoyed by team captain Matt Lowery against Simon Myring to keep the IT Sports posse on course for a championship and cup double.
