Heworth Under-16s will contest the Yorkshire Youth League Division One Play-off final tonight after beating league winners Stanley Rangers in the semi-final.

The young Villagers, who will take on Wibsey Juniors at Featherstone's ground (KO 6.30pm), stunned Rangers with a 22-4 win, the hosts' second defeat of the season.

Stanley, playing with the slope in the first half, could only score one try against Heworth's awesome defence to lead 4-2 at the break, Sean Coulson having slotted over a penalty at the other end.

But Heworth took control in the second half, with Chris Varley crossing in the corner before Marcus Allan stole the ball in a tackle and ran the length of the field to score. Matt Derry set up Andy Hall to cross and Allan scored again, with Coulson adding two conversions.

New Earswick Under-12s put up a strong performance to beat in-form Stanningley 18-4.

Stanningley had won five of their last six games but had no answer to the power and pace of the All Blacks. Tries came from Nick Speck, Jonny Nendick and a dazzling first try by Jason Race. Jack Hodgson put in a massive effort with 21 tackles, while Samuel Atkinson was man of the match.

New Earswick Under-10s were unlucky not to get a draw against Hunslet Parkside when a last-minute conversion attempt hit the crossbar.

Tries in the first half by Lewis Pool and James Leaf saw All Blacks go in 12-12 at half-time, while Pool got his second try late on in the 18-16 defeat. Santana and Leaf also had second-half tries disallowed. Man of the match was Jake Atkinson while Liam Dawson topped the tackle count.

A below-par first-half performance saw New Earswick Under-9s lose 34-16 at Hunslet Parkside. All Blacks' tries came from Liam Davison, David Bellwood and Luke Sullivan with goals from Bellwood and Sullivan. Liam Davison was outstanding, while Bellwood topped the tackle count and George Pallister ran well.

New Earswick Under-8s had an impressive 11-5 win against Hunslet Parkside on. Man of the match was Spencer Mitchell, top tackler was Jordan Bracewell and most improved was Sam Halmshaw.
