SHIFTING furniture is not the usual activity at York garage FR Pulleyn, but it has helped staff win the Evening Press WYLAP Retailer of the Week award.
The garage in Wigginton Road increased its sales of the Evening Press by more than ten per cent, by simply moving the newspaper stand closer to the counter.
Forecourt manager Sue Turnpenny, 52, right, who has worked at the garage for 21 years, has now won a certificate and a bottle of bubbly. She said that customer interest in the WYLAP T-shirts worn by herself and her assistant Kirstine Bruce, left, also increased sales, boosting this week's figures by 10.4 per cent. Sue said: "We moved the stand closer to the counter, that really seems to have made a difference and now most people are just picking one up as they walk in. People were also asking us why we were wearing the T-shirts."
