Ampleforth College netball team are in Malta this week on the first overseas tour by girls of the school.
They are playing a series of matches at Marsa Netball Club against Maltese teams including Strikes 'A' and HSBC 'A'.
The six-day tour also includes cultural visits and social functions hosted by Maltese families.
The headmaster of Ampleforth College, Fr Leo Chamberlain, accompanied the girls. He was meeting parents and numerous former students now resident in Malta, and was meeting the headmaster of St Edward's College, Birgu, from where four boys will be joining Ampleforth in September.
Traditionally known as a boys' school, Ampleforth College has opened its Sixth Form to boarding girls and will become fully co-educational from next year, when girls of 13-plus will be admitted.
The netball team are among 37 Sixth Form girls living in a newly built boarding house and their numbers are expected to grow to 140.
