Heworth 'A' have raced to their eighth consecutive York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg-Tetley Snooker League championship with one match still to play.
Their winning team which trounced Acomb 'A' to clinch the title was Richie Burdett (24 break), Simon Burdett, Kevin Gall, Keith Lawrence, Jason Milner (30 break), Clive Whyte and Neil Wood.
Bootham 'A', in second place, but 14 points adrift of Heworth, beat third-placed Fulford 'A' 4-3. Brian Coulson, Mark Darley, Colin Robinson and Ken Taylor won the first four frames for Bootham, with Simon England (32 break), Phil Oliver and Richard Stroughair (24 break) replying for Fulford.
Bootham 'B' had a fortuitous 4-3 win over Fulford 'B'. Gary Boulton and Ray Thackway put Fulford 2-0 up and then Tim Fillingham, Fred Hough and George Long moved Bootham in front.
Ray Stamp was gifted a decisive sixth frame when Bob Smith followed through on the final black. George Toone won the final frame, but Bootham 'B' were the match winners and have a three-point advantage in the John Smith's 'B' team competition, though they are away to Heworth 'A' in their last match.
Heworth 'B' defeated bottom-placed Acomb 'B' 5-2. Brian Birch, Mike Braithwaite, Huw Faircliffe, John Sherlock and a walkover by Keith Watkinson gained Heworth's points. Ken Bowser and Jeff Keen replied for Acomb.
Acomb finished the season with a 7-0 defeat of Fulford in York Conservative Clubs' Slater Cup Snooker Pairs League. This followed earlier whitewashes of Heworth and Bootham, the other two teams in the league.
Three of the six frames had black ball finishes but Acomb easily earned the aggregate point, primarily because of the 46-point win by L Atmore and B Hough.
Second-placed Bootham beat Heworth 5-2. Five of the six frames had, in essence, black ball results, with Bootham claiming four of them. This was sufficient for them to gain the aggregate by ten points.
Bootham had eight wins, the same as the league champions, but their results were affected by fielding an ineligible player. This cost them four points and a win.
Fulford won York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League for the third time in five years, by defeating bottom-placed Acomb 5-2 in the final match.
Alan Reed won the first game for Fulford by just five points, only for Ken Bowser to level the match. Brian Bickerstaff, Richard Stroughair and Colin Neal, who defeated Keith Myers by one point, then won the match for Fulford. Paul Clark (20, 23 breaks) earned Acomb's second point.
Bootham 'B' beat their 'A' team 5-2 to finish in second place one point behind Fulford. Chris Granger (23 break), George Long, Ian Robinson and Jeff Brown, who had an 18 unfinished break to defeat John Darley (28 break) by 14 points, won the first four frames for the 'B' team and opened up a 130-point lead in the aggregate scores.
Barry Rankin and Ken Taylor (22, 54 breaks) won for the 'A' team, who finished in third place.
