YORK Schools Under-13s continued their winning ways with a 1-0 win over Wakefield at York RI's New Lane ground.

Despite chances for Mark Wilson, Danny Penrose and Jack Webster it remained 0-0 at half-time.

York pressed even harder after the interval and were rewarded three minutes from the end when Phil Smithies was brought down in the box and James Windall scored from the spot.

Victory over Sheffield tonight at York Sixth Form College (6.30pm kick-off) would give York Under-11s the Yorkshire League title.

York go into the match unbeaten after a 1-1 draw against a well-organised Wakefield side in their previous game.

Wakefield took the lead with a long-range strike by York's pressure told in the second half with a right-foot shot from the edge of the area by Murray McLusker.

The Under-11s are scheduled to entertain Nottingham on Saturday, April 5, at the Sixth Form College (10.30am). Players should meet at the ground at 9.45am and take £2 subs.
