PAUL Marshall lifted his first piece of silverware in senior football management last night as his Harrogate Railway side hammered Bridlington 4-0 at Station View.

The result gave Railway a 7-2 aggregate win in the two-legged final of the Northern Counties East League President's Cup, against the team riding high at the top of the NCEL premier division.

"We totally outclassed them," said Marshall. "It was probably the best performance since we beat Workington and Marine in the FA Cup. Everyone was excellent."

Brid had only two real chances, missing one early on and seeing the second, a penalty after the break taken by Matt Eddison, superbly saved by Ed Neale. Town also had their goalkeeper sent off in crazy circumstances with 15 minutes left.

Railway themselves had missed a penalty through Ian McLean with the scores at 0-0 but they were 2-0 up within 20 minutes as Steve Davey headed home from a long throw and then flicked on for strike partner Kevin Smith to hold off the defender and score.

Davey netted from the rebound after McLean's free-kick was parried to make it 3-0 at half-time and McLean completed the scoring towards the end as he curled a beauty over the replacement 'keeper.

Brid's number one, Gavin Kelly, had by then been sent off for allegedly throwing a ball in retaliation at a young spectator, knocking him over.

Railway go for more silverware tomorrow as they entertain Sheffield in the quarter-final of the League Cup (7.45pm).
