Super League new boys Huddersfield shocked the rugby league world yesterday by toppling champions St Helens.

Tony Smith's side won 36-22 at the McAlpine Stadium to turn the table on its head. And, with Wigan slipping up at home to London Broncos on Friday, the traditional big four no longer look to have a monopoly on the spoils.

New leaders Leeds possess the only 100 per cent record while Wakefield's surprise win at Castleford means only Widnes have yet to pick up points after four rounds of the campaign.

"We should be able to see this sort of game every week," said Smith. "It was a real shot in the arm for rugby league, the sort of contest that can bring people in."

Saints coach Ian Millward hailed the Giants as "one of the best attacking sides" in the league after they had run in eight tries.

Hull and Bradford drew level with Saints after collecting wins at Warrington and Widnes respectively. Winger Steve Prescott scored his tenth try in seven games and kicked five goals in Hull's 27-14 win, while Widnes paid the price for the absence of a reliable goalkicker in their 26-18 defeat.

Swinton provided the Arriva Trains Cup shock of the round with a 26-22 defeat of Rochdale.
