Shaun Urquhart, City fan and Supporters' Trust member, sums up his feelings on the club's big day of celebration

SATURDAY, March 29, 2003, is certainly a day that will live long in my memory.

It marked the day that heralded a new beginning for York City Football Club. In addition to a history to be proud of, we now have a future to look forward to.

Since my enlightenment in 1981 there have been many highs and lows, a great many of which have come over the past 15 months.

A new-found spirit and unity has emerged during this period both on and off the pitch, encapsulated by Saturday's emotive march, the rapturous response to the 'Saved City' banner and the monumental efforts of the playing staff in recent months.

The gargantuan efforts of the Supporters' Trust, ably supported by The Friends of Bootham Crescent, Harrogate Minstermen and each and every person who has helped in any way, not forgetting the support from fans of other clubs, have been rewarded.

In true fairytale style, good has triumphed.

Supporting York City over the last 15 months has been an highly emotional experience, the 'fun' promised by John Batchelor (City's former chairman) has not been overly evident, although with the value of hindsight, the connection between the words "promise" and "Batchelor" is not particularly strong.

Saturday marked a new beginning for our football club. To coin a phrase, "It's what Saturday afternoons were made for".

The sun shone, the boys beat Southend 2-0 and "we", the fans, have a club to be proud of - not a bad day at all.
