I TOO am disappointed that Hugh Bayley voted for the UK Government to attack Iraq without a UN resolution specifically authorising military action.
This was despite the fact that he wrote three letters to me dated February 22, February 28 and March 14 in which he clearly stated that he would work within a UN framework, observing: "If all else fails, and as a last resort, the UN should authorise military action to enforce its will." What had 'failed'? The weapons inspectors certainly were not failing.
I have now had a further letter from Hugh Bayley dated March 26 attempting to justify his U-turn, which he seems to do by conveniently blaming the French. (If all else fails, blame it on the French). He also points out that, "the House of Commons was left with only two options - military action or withdrawal of British troops". The latter option seemed the obvious choice.
If this is really the best we can expect from our Labour MP, I suggest that he should seriously consider whether he is up to the job. I shall be seriously considering what to do with my vote at the next election.
