Cryfield, ridden to victory by his trainer Nigel Tinkler in a charity race at Doncaster recently, is in action for 'real' at Nottingham tomorrow, with Kim Tinkler, the trainer's wife, in the saddle.
The Doncaster race was not staged under Jockey Club rules, which means there is no mention of it in Cryfield's portfolio. All the same, his success means something and should stand him in good stead tomorrow.
The gelding came from off the pace to snatch victory in a furiously-run race at the Lincoln Handicap meeting, providing former successful jump-jockey Tinkler with a memorable riding comeback.
That should have done the horse good and it makes sense not to underestimate Cryfield's claims in tomorrow's Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry Handicap.
Mesmeric is awarded my Nap vote in the 'Further Flight' Stakes over one mile and six furlongs.
The Ed Dunlop-trained five-year-old never seemed quite right last season, after enjoying a profitable campaign the previous year. But he was sent off favourite for his comeback at Doncaster earlier this month and ran a decent race to finish second to Razkalla.
That should have put a real edge on Mesmeric, who will again have the assistance of Kieren Fallon in this £32,000 Listed race.
In the April HBLB Conditions Stakes, Fallon rides Indian Spark, who ran a cracking race at Doncaster 12 days ago when a length second to Piccled, to whom he was conceding almost two stones.
At Newcastle, Charlie Swan, Ireland's champion jump jockey, sends over a couple of runners with outstanding chances.
Swan, who now operates as a traine as his riding career draws to a close, can score with Trump Card (3.05) and Arctic Gold, a winner last time out, who returns from a break to run in the 4.05.
