THE headmaster of St Peter's School in York is to leave after nine years in the post.
Andrew Trotman will leave in September next year to take up a post as warden of St Edward's School in Oxford.
The chairman of the board of governors, Major General Murray Naylor, said: "He was only 39 when he was appointed as headmaster, a very young age to take on such a post and the governors were always aware that he was likely to pursue another headmaster's appointment before ending his career."
Mr Trotman said: "I will be leaving behind many good friends and talented colleagues in York, but I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of my new post."
The announcement coincides with the decision by his deputy, Campbell Perry, to leave for a career change after six years. Mr Perry is to train to be a psychotherapist.
He will be replaced by Simon Marriott, currently a boarding housemaster and director of music at Sutton Valence School in Kent.
