PANTOMIME dame Berwick Kaler is set to join Oscar-winning actress Dame Judi Dench as an Honorary Freeman of the City of York.
The larger-than-life character, who has entertained thousands in the York Theatre Royal pantomime, was nominated by the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor David Horton. The nomination will be considered by the City of York Council executive next Friday. Berwick, 57, of Acomb, said he was stunned, but if his name was accepted he would be thrilled to receive the title.
He said: "I live in the city, but I wasn't born here, but the only place I call home is York. Just to live and work here is enough for me, but I would be thrilled and delighted to accept."
