Church Fenton co-driver Dave McKinlay helped Paul Newbold to victory in the De Lacy Motor Club's Binbrook Stages Rally after a day-long battle with the MG Metro 6R4 of Selby-based Tony Conway.
Deeping St Nicholas driver Newbold eventually steered his Eurofit Installations-backed Toyota Celica GT-4 to victory by over two minutes.
Conway had pulled out a small lead after the morning stages but Newbold improved in the afternoon after a switch of wheels.
Not even a cracked brake disc could halt Newbold's charge as Jonny Milner, the Huggate-based, British Rally champion, helped out.
Milner was helping a friend next to Newbold in service and had two spare disc brakes in his van.
Newbold had an 11-second lead on Conway as they entered the final stage and Conway made a mistake which left Newbold to ease home.
McKinlay and Newbold will tackle the Twyford Wood Stages on April 20.
