YET again another set of "through-roads" have been made into "no through roads" except for residents only, at a cost of £28,000, simply as a result of residents' complaints about rat-running in Bishophill (March 5).
How many residents of Bishophill drive cars and if so, which other "through roads" in York do they drive down as rat-runs causing disturbance to residents elsewhere? How many "no through roads" does the council intend to create for a select few residential areas while, at the same time, increasing congestion on the remaining "through roads" where others live?
Is the council deliberately closing off "through roads" to increase congestion so much that a complete ban of all vehicles except for public transport is more possible?

...T JACKSON (Letters, March 12) obviously lives on the wrong side of the bollards. We are now celebrating the absence of the morning "Brands Hatch": cars doing time trials up Victor Street and down Cromwell Road.
We have carers arriving in the morning. They used to get abuse while trying to park. I did not know ladies knew such language. So now they have to arrive via Skeldergate. Oh! the peace.
The other big plus is, in the afternoon, we can now get out. With traffic calming in Victor Street, we had to take our wheelchair on the road, but the "illegal" traffic made this impossible.
The bollards should not be required. Victor Street was designated "access only" but nobody obeyed the signs. And it was never enforced.
