BRING back Jorvik Festival's burning longboat.
That is the plea from top organisations with a stake in tourism in York.
The call to revive the fiery spectacle, pictured left, during the annual February celebration of the city's Viking history has come from the product development group of the First Stop York tourism partnership.
The partnership, consisting of York Tourism Bureau, the City of York Council and the York and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, has forged a broad strategy to increase the potential of the city's rivers after a call for ideas from the City of York Council's leisure scrutiny board.
Boat-burning on the Ouse ended in 1999 after organisers found they could not afford to put in place the health and safety measures needed as the event grew into huge popularity.
