YORK boasts many awesome attractions, but little spectacle. Fireworks at Clifford's Tower and the Viking boat burning on the Ouse have been killed off, victims of their popularity and health and safety fears.
Now the tourism industry is asking that York burns its boats once more, as part of a campaign to make more of the city's rivers.
As the snowflake illuminations projected onto the Minster showed, people love a good show. These special events are the stuff of lifelong memories.
We hope that the council and others can find a way for York to make a spectacle of itself again.
