SCHOOLS and community groups in York are being urged to enter an award scheme which could make a real difference to their local environment.
The npower Conservation Awards, run by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, recognise efforts made to protect and enhance wildlife and the environment.
They are also aimed at encouraging more people to become involved in conservation projects.
Entrants in the schools and community groups categories have the opportunity to win £100 for a project they would like to undertake, such as creating or restoring a habitat to encourage the return of wildlife to a particular area.
Kevin Rogers, npower's community relations manager for the Yorkshire region, said: "At npower a key aim of our community relations programme is to encourage people to get involved in improving and protecting their local environment, making it better for future generations."
Michael Krause, business development manager at the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, said: "We work in partnership to promote conservation and environmental issues, and these awards make a significant contribution in helping us to look after wildlife by inspiring people to get involved in projects in their local area."
Anyone wanting an entry form should contact Mr Krause at the trust on 01904 659570, or email michaelkrause@yorkshirewt.cix.co.uk The deadline for the schools and community groups categories is March 31. There are also categories for businesses and individuals.
