THE visit to York by In Hea Song the day before Miss Jin's body was discovered on the outskirts of the city appears to have been pure coincidence.
The 22-year-old student travelled to the city from London by coach for a 12-hour visit three weeks before she disappeared.
In February 2002, her parents made a desperate plea to the people of York to help them find their daughter.
But in mid-March, their worst fears came true when her badly-decomposed body was found sealed into a chamber in the house in Poplar, east London, where Kim had rented her a room. She had a sock stuffed in her mouth and had been bound and gagged with plain masking tape.
It had been thought there might have been some significance to her visit to the city the day before Miss Jin's body was found.
But, said Detective Superintendent Alan Ankers: "Koreans are no different to anyone else who visits this country and York is very much on the tourist trail.
"It might just have been a coincidence.
"A brochure for York Minster was found in her belongings and we haven't got anything to say she wasn't just doing the sights."
