JUNIOR golf in York has been stymied in its development.
York will not enter a team in the Yorkshire Union of Golf Clubs' inter-district junior team league this year because of under-strength junior sections.
Said the York Union junior co-ordinator Mike Bickerton: "We are one of the smallest unions with 13 clubs and with several of them comparatively new, they have not had time to develop junior sections."
However, he confirmed that within the York Union there is to be a new three-boy team event as well as a programme of friendly matches.
"It is important that we encourage junior players and we intend to do all that we can to do so."
