KIRKBYMOORSIDE could get CCTV security cameras if it succeeds in winning grant aid, members of the town council were told this week.
The town clerk, Robert Horne, said each camera was likely to cost between £8,000 and £10,000, with further costs for installation and providing fibre optic cables for the system.
He said that grant aid was being sought from the Crime Reduction Directorate in Leeds. "We want to see if we are eligible for such a grant," he said.
County Coun Geoff Rennie, chairman of Ryedale Cameras in Action, is to be invited to discuss the issue with the council.
Coun Gary Hobbs, of Ryedale District Council, said he understood that if a CCTV system was provided it would be run from the planned new police station at Malton.
Town councillors said that while Kirkbymoorside did not have a CCTV system, it was already paying for others elsewhere in Ryedale.
