YORK City Rowing Club's novice crew produced a sparkling display at the Head of the River Race on the Ouse.
The quartet of Joe Lyons, James Butler, Sean Potter and James Blissett won their category in a time which made them one of the fastest fours of the day, beating several senior crews.
The York club, which hosted the event, also put out two senior eights which came third and eighth overall.
York-based Sarah Whitwell, who has stepped up from sculling to rowing, helped her Newark crews win the women's eights and come second in division in the J16 coxed quads.
The core of the York women's squad were in London taking part in the Women's Head of the River Race on the Thames.
The crew of Amanda Lockley, Kate Fleming, Noll Browne, Becky Harland, Stephanie Gant, Sarah Oram, Cath Smith, coxed by Sea Stephenson, were third out of 59 crews in the Sen3 category.
They covered the 4.5-mile Putney to Mortlake course in 22 minutes 16 seconds and are looking to build on that success at this weekend's River Race at Chester.
