Workers at a York caf will be swapping their serving spoons for swimwear to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Six members of staff at the Blue Fly caf in New Street will be taking part in a five kilometre swimathon at the Barbican this weekend.
They hope to splash out and raise more than £1,200 for the national charity which helps people live with cancer.
Caf owner Jamie Doughty, 35, who set up the business six months ago, said the group chose to take part after a close friend died of the disease.
He said Polly Pollock , 52, of Gilling, near Helmsley, who died four months ago, would be in the minds of all the caf's participants.
He added: "I'm a keen swimmer and have been training for the last few months. It's going to be a tough day but we hope to enjoy it."
