From the death mask image of Rory on the CD sleeve to the last note of Lonesome High Refraining, this 14-track offering of previously unreleased acoustic folk songs is a joy.
Rory, one of the pioneers of Irish rock/blues, who died far too early at 47 in 1995 when complications set in after a liver transplant, teams up with guest artists such as Lonnie Donegan, Martin Carthy, Bert Jansch and The Dubliners.
Rory, who now has a bronze statue to his memory in Cork, shows here far the boy who taught himself to play guitar at nine went on to influence the music scene. This is a well-timed reprise of Rory's undoubted talents and numbers such as Lonesome Highway, Walkin' Blues and Goin' To My Hometown should win him a new generation of fans. Rory's yer man.
