SIXTY years have flown by for a York couple who have been celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.
Doreen and Bill Chappell, of Heworth, marked their big day with a family party on Saturday evening.
The couple met in the early 1940s while working together, and married shortly afterwards at York Register Office when Doreen was 18 and Bill was 23.
Bill worked in the removal industry while Doreen was bringing up their two sons Malcolm and Phillip.
The couple then worked together for the city council as caretakers before retiring when they were both in their 60s.
Doreen said it did not feel like 60 years since their wedding day.
She said: "After all these years we are still very happy - you do not grow old when you are enjoying life and are happy together."
The couple also have two grandchildren, Emma and Mark, and a four-year-old great-grandson, Callum.
