IT IS good to read York will be getting £1.9 million extra for integrated transport (March 3).

Cycling is the best form of transport in York and to ease congestion I would build extra separate cycle tracks.

For example, Wigginton Road needs better provision; Stockton Lane outside the 30mph zone needs improving; Monks Cross to the Hopgrove roundabout needs a direct cycle route and New Earswick to Clifton Moor requires a direct route avoiding the outer ring road.

The new proposals for the university extension is another opportunity to provide the right facility from the start, not building cycle lanes and tracks where space allows at a later date. Traffic is increasing so there is no time to lose in upgrading cycling facilities.

...IN response to Eric Gledhill's letter (February 25), I assure Evening Press readers that Clifton Cycling Club is still going strong. Now in its 108th year, the club is still encouraging new members, especially those looking to take up cycling competitively, has year-round club rides and social activities, is involved in two evening time trial leagues and has members participating in open time trials and road races throughout the season.

Members have been corresponding via e-mail but for the last couple of years the club has been unable to find anyone willing and able to edit the Cliftonite, the club's magazine.

In this time active members have been e-mailed or posted a newsletter to keep them informed.

Two of our newest computer-literate members have since volunteered to edit the Cliftonite and a copy will be winging its way to Mr Gledhill.
