MORE York residents could be getting on their bikes in this cycle-friendly city with the launch of an extensive new route map.
The map, available free of charge, includes more than 100km of cycle routes around the city.
It also includes all the city's primary and secondary schools, showing parents and pupils the safest routes to school.
Children from Hob Moor and Our Lady's RC primary schools helped launch the map at Hob Moor, included on the map for the first time this year.
Councillor Tracey Simpson-Laing, the council's executive member for transport, said: "We are constantly expanding the network of both on and off road routes, which gives a safe alternative option to people who choose cycling for their journey to work or school.
"The cycle route map is a fantastic resource for the large number of residents and visitors who choose pedal power to travel around the city."
The cycle route map is available free of charge from cycle retailers in the city, council receptions, tourist information centres, libraries and the bus information office in George Hudson Street.
For more information on the route map or cycling in York phone the council's cycling officer on 01904 551349.
