JOHN Mooring produced some of his county standard darts to win the York John Smith's Men's League individual championship.
With 125, 123, 135, then 98 - to just fail at 12 darts - Mooring took the first leg of the final in 13 but Paul Bartnett (Rose and Crown) bounced back to level.
Bartnett consistently scored well but Mooring had the title firmly fixed within his sights and clinched the best of five with 19, then 21 darts.
Mooring's semi-final progress was at the expense of Cygnet colleague Dave Gibbons. Mooring set off with 121, 140, 137 to record 15 darts but when 140, 140, 125, treble 20 gave a possible 11-darter, finishing deserted him and Gibbons equalised before losing the decider in similar fashion.
Rivals that time, Mooring-Gibbons joined forces to become pairs champions.
After beating title-holders Mark Hartley-Jack White (Cygnet) 2-1 amid a flurry of 20 tons-plus, a 23-dart 701, including three consecutive 140s, took the finals opening leg and the title 2-0 from Trafalgar's Paul Keers-Kelvyn Frankel.
The latter had earlier beaten Rose and Crown's John Holden-Jamie Byworth.
Trafalgar's Rich Plummer pulled out 20, 21 darts to edge Mick Coupland (Dringhouses) for the Captain's Cup, while Cygnet 'A' drilled home their superiority by beating division two winners Blacksmith's Arms 5-0 in the Champion of Champions event.
Sun's Chris Thompson (12, 14, 15) picked up the Three Fastest Finishes competition trophy and was adjudged player of the season.
The new season starts on Thursday.
The result of a re-arranged fixture between Coach and Horses and Fulford Conservatives held the key to the York White Rose Ladies' League division one championship.
Having completed their quota of matches, title holders Fulfordgate set the target at 54 points, which Fulford Conservatives would surpass by gaining four points, while Coach could succeed with a 6-1 score.
In the end the result went 4-3 to Coach and a play-off will be held to sort the Fulford sides.
The Conservatives set off strongly with Moira Atkinson, Michelle Harrison, Maureen Lodge and Jackie Barnett taking the team event, and adding the first pair.
Nevertheless the Tadcaster side struck with Yvonne Ryder-Lil Penman then June Mallory.
Good throwing by Coach skipper Jill Clapham put Ryder on to clinch the decider.
Barry Noble threw a maximum to game in 13 darts in York John Smith's Mixed League division one.
Even so, Golden Slipper 'B' were denied the result by Dave O'Hara-Rose O'Bee, who snatched the decider for Tap.
Despite 19 darts from Tracey Farmeary and a slick 96 check-shot by Harry Watson, Huntington went down 5-4 to Slipper 'A' team's last pair, Pete-Jean West.
Beeswing's Jim Hawksby sailed out on 100 for 18 darts but Cygnet 'A' had a stupendous 155 finish for 21 from Kevin Walton and 20 darts by Dave Gibbons to take the match 6-3.
Competition finals night is on Sunday at Health Services Club.
