I WRITE in response to your report 'York misses out on tidy prize' (March 4).
I am not surprised York missed out, the centre of the city may be clean but that's about it.
Every approach road and the ring road of York is just a dumping ground for litter.
The highways, byways, hedges and ditches are covered in plastic, bottles, rubber tyres, glass - you name it and it's there.
Where are the council's cleaners?
Do we have any?
Nature is very accommodating.
In summer when the tourists come she will cover it up, but remember it never goes away,.
It doesn't rot, it will be there this time next year with all the extra throwaways.
City of York Council should get moving and clean up all our roads or we will never deserve a "tidy prize".
Mrs G Tait,
Derwent Park,
Wheldrake, York.
