INCREASING fuel prices have forced a North Yorkshire bus company to increase its fares.
Stephensons of Easingwold has added ten pence to all bus fares after fuel prices rocketed due to fears of war.
The company runs services between Easingwold and York, Helmsley and York and Malton and Hovingham. It also runs buses to Linton-on-Ouse and Newton-on-Ouse.
Company director David Stephenson said the company was now paying more than £3,000 a week extra for fuel.
The increased fares will not cover all the extra costs of the unsubsidised bus services - but Mr Stephenson said the increase was only temporary and passengers had understood the company's dilemma.
First York, Arriva Yorkshire, Yorkshire Coastliner and Harrogate and District bus companies all said they had no plans to impose any fare increases as a result of the cost of fuel.
