THE letter from Mrs P Baird about the audit commission report on hospital waiting lists appeared under the headline 'Hospital criticism gives cause for concern' (March 7). Mrs Baird referred to the public needing to be reassured.
I can provide that reassurance. Absolutely no evidence was found of deliberate misreporting of waiting list figures in the York Health Services Trust.
The audit did discover a small number of errors in recording the date a patient went on to a waiting list. At a maximum, this affected the measuring of waiting times by no more than two to three days.
The errors did not have an impact on the care given to our patients and they did not invalidate the trust's position in terms of meeting its key performance targets.
The York Health Services Trust welcomed the publication of the audit commission's report on waiting list accuracy as a measure to ensure that it continues to give complete and accurate information which supports patient care.
