A LONG-awaited report on York's flooding dangers will be published in the summer, the Government has confirmed. MP Hugh Bayley welcomed the fact there is now a firm publication date for the dossier.
He urged civic leaders to begin thinking about plans for flood defences, in preparation for the report warning the city can expect further flooding. Details of the publication date were confirmed by Floods Minister Elliot Morley in a Westminster debate on flood and coastal defences.
Mr Bayley urged him to put pressure on the Environment Agency to publish the report as soon as possible. He said: "The consideration of new flood defences to protect some of those 600 properties is dependent on the conclusions of the study. "Naturally the people concerned want the study to be published as soon as possible". Mr Morley said: "It is a sophisticated study, looking at York and the whole catchment in relation to the best approaches to deal with minimising flood risk down the whole of the Ouse in Yorkshire."
