MANY voluntary organisations, community groups and members of the public will be sorry to learn Janet Looker has been obliged to stand down as chair of the Selby and York Primary Care Trust (February 26).
Janet, a committed democrat, chaired meetings of the trust in a way that encouraged everyone present to take part and made them feel their contribution was valued.
She welcomed members of the public to the meetings and made sure they had their say and were listened to.
She brought warmth and good humour to discussions that may otherwise have been dry and tedious. Above all, she had a human touch that will be hard to follow.
I hope whoever succeeds her will continue the tradition of openness and plain speaking Janet tried so hard to promote.
Colin Stroud,
Chief executive,
York Council for Voluntary Service, Priory Street, York.
